Have you ever been sitting in the casino or at the horse track and saw someone on a winning streak only to see them an hour later and they are broke? If so, you probably shook your head in disbelief. How or why would someone win thousands of dollars and turn around and give it back to the casino in losses? If you think it sounds unreal, it’s not, it happens every day.
There are many reasons why someone would turn around and lose their money, the first one being that they simply think they are on a streak and they are going to win even more. Before they even realize they have done it, they are losing and then they keep playing to try to win back what they lost. This is a vicious cycle that can go on until every penny they won is simply gone.
The biggest reasons that winnings turn into losses has to do with compulsion gambling and addiction. When a person has a compulsion for gambling or is addicted, they aren’t truly gambling for the winnings, they are gambling because they get a rush from it. Their body releases chemicals when they are excited from a win and it is very much like the high from a drug; however, just like the high from a drug, it cannot be exactly replicated. So, no matter how much they win, they never get that same rush that they had from their first big win and they just keep chasing it.
If you win big or even little and you are ahead, make yourself a keep pocket and put your money in there and don’t go back into that pocket. You don’t have to put all of your winnings back, you can play with some, just don’t sit there and send all of it back to the house. Take your money and run.
Most people, who lose all of their winnings, as you can see from the information here, have a problem. If you fall into this category, make sure you get help for your problem.

It’s so frustrating to see someone winning and then basically giving it back when I’m sitting there having a streak of bad luck.

i find it very sad to watch the frustration on the compulsive gambler’s face as they try to get that same rush from winning but they never do.
